EAGLESFIELD, D. Barry.

A long term UK enthusiast. He owned a type 40 (40714 with reg. no. UU 8184), a car which was later broken up. He then acquired a road-equipped type 37 which was rebuilt over a two year period and fitted with starter motor, twin batteries, hydraulic brakes and a new 3 seater body (“Bugantics”13/3/44). He competed at Prescott with it in 1949 with a best time of 60.91 secs. The car was offered for sale in “Motor Sport” in December, 1949. His telephone no. was “Park 4306” and a spare new 14 x 54 CWP was offered for £!5. In May 1950 he was recovering from illness and again advertised the car for sale. He replaced ithe type 37 with a “sensible” 9/28 Humber saloon. One of his achievements around this time was running-in F.I.Carr’s type 59 over 200 miles around the Crosby aerodrome near Carlisle. He was awarded the UK BOC Club Pennant in 1952. Around this time the idea of a Bugatti Register was first mooted. Eaglesfield undertook this project and it developed into the 1954 work “The Bugatti Book” which inspired many enthusiasts and was instrumental in the revival of interest in Bugattis in the post-WW2 period. The book ran to a fourth impression in 1960. In 2000 he wrote the Foreword to the “British Bugatti Register and Data Book and he is at present working on a directory of “Bugatti Peripherals” from surgical instruments (still in production) to tilting trains which he intended to publish in 2006. He can be contacted at 17, Princes Close, Sidcup, Kent, DA14 4RH.

Sorry, let me apologize in advance, as this post may not be appropriate for this thread.

But after hearing that Barry Eaglesfield still offers "original dust jackets" for "The Bugatti Book", I would love to find out how obtain/purchase these.

I see his address listed above, but does he have an email address,or phone number as well? Could you post this here, or on a different thread, or in a private message to me?

thank you!

VLM,

Andrew

If you join the UK VSCC you will be issued with an up to date membership list which contains the phone numbers and e.mail adresses of most UK Bugatti enthusiasts together with their home addresses. Several foreign Bugatti enthusiasts also belong to the VSCC. (Barry's phone numbers are listed). As I don't belong to the VSCC I shouldn't really be giving out its members phone numbers ! Barry kindly gave me a new cover as well but its far to nice to put onto my grubby copy of his book. (If anyone wants one I have a spare copy - £60).

The UK BOC publishes a membership list from time to time. However, the most recent one is around eight years old now and does not include phone numbers or e.mails addresses.

Maybe I will have to then become a member of the VSCC. I am a member of the ABC, so I will go check the membership list to see if Barry is a member there.

Thanks!
