According to Barrrie Price's "Big Bugattis" book (p.82) the car Costantini is leaning against is a type 50.

The list of type numbers with suffixes was prepared by UK BOC member Keith Mountain and is an extract from his article in "Bugantics".

Type 50 or #46373 ??????

To see the book:

"Une vie pour Bugatti , about Novo" by Yan Verdier 2002 > #46373

Hi Christian

You have done such a lot of work with this and now I am about to add to the confusion - sorry! Look at the first photo (7845 RJ 7) doesn't it look slightly longer than the T50? Look at the curve of the rear wing between the wheel and rear bottom corner of the door. There seems to be a little more space on this one than on T50. The doors seem slightly longer, as does the running board. Is it possible that these are actually two different cars, a T46 and T50 with very similar bodywork?

But if this should turn out to be the case than it would mean that the car that Costantini is leaning against must be T46, chassis 46373, owned by one R. Morin. First registered 400 Y then 7845 RJ 7, but the Costantini photo looks like a short wheelbase car. Damnation!

50126, first owned by Willi Escher would seem to be a different car again, later re-bodied by Abbott. At least this seem sure, doesn't it?

In any event, I am now more confused than ever. Great isn't it?

Instead of asking for definitive answers, let me instead ask for your theories ; your interpretation of the available evidence and your instincts.

Let us have some (more) fun with this one.

Kind Regards
Johan

Funnily enough i sold the original chassis plate from this car (50126) on ebay after I offered it to the actual owners- they were not interested in buying it.
