I would have thought the only people LEGALLY entitled to name cars "Bugatti" have been Ettore Bugatti and his successors in title, Artioli and Volkswagen.

You are so right about the T55 roadster, it truly is a masterpiece. But it is exactly that monster engine, and it's subsequent effect on the proportions of the body and, especially, the wing-line that leaves me aching like a school-boy with his first porn-mag. The T55 is an elegant, perfectly proportioned masterpiece, no doubt about that, but the Bachelier roadster carries with it the T54's killer reputation. It is this implied danger that I find so appealing.

Thanks for the Braam Ruben web-address; I spent a long time neglecting my job drooling over that unrestored 8C2900B Touring Coupe built for, I think, the King of Romania. (already post-abdication when he took delivery) Did you know there are those who believe that the neither the T57 or the T57S were nearly as good as the 8C2.9? Slags.

Johan

This time I agree with Johan.
The T55 (Jean Bugatti roadster) is a car most man do not want to seen with because it is too feminine. The Bachelier T54 is a car for men. I know what I am talking about. I have driven it.

BC128 is a very individual Bugatti in that sense, it has the right engine, beautiful wheels, a nice radiator (no T57S, luckily) and a very individual, modern, almost Lotus 7 kind of body, which fits the car well.

As long as you do not use the name Bugatti I agree.
This car has NOTHING in common with a Molsheim Bugatti except the engine so it should not be called a Bugatti.

So, everybody who says that this is not a Bugatti, but all those half-new cars with a replica Profilée or GS body are, are as insane as Johan says he is.

Thank you for the compliment. Better insane than dull. But for the proper Bugatti enthousiasts a rebodied REAL Bugatti is better value than this nonsense hotrod.
BTW, Nobody has as yet made any comments about the road holding of this creation. Are there any mechanical engineers on this Forum?
Have you seen the trackrod being used on this contraption?
The man who executed that should be ashamed of himself and immediately start looking for another job.
Conclusion: showcar for people with bad taste. A NON driver and because of that NOT a Bugatti.

Nice to hear from you Bugwrench. Congrats on the T54 drive; it is now official, I am envious. As for the rest of your argument, I hear what you are saying, but I do believe that someone is entitled to call the result of their own work (and/or money!) whatever they like. Personally, I do not think that a fibre-glass bodied, Jaguar V12-engined creation is a Cobra, but I do not have the right to tell the owner what he may or may not call it.

Originality is a fascinating subject for debate; to me original is a complete, numbers matching and unrestored, yet perfectly preserved Bugatti. But we all know that only a small handful of cars qualify, and as time goes on, they will all have to be restored in some way or another. Or put away in a glass case, and never used again. On the other hand, if only the chassis and running gear survives, coachwork is the prerogative of the owner, but I do think it a pity to sacrifice an original, if plain looking body in favour of a more sporting replica.

As to the Kellog car my attitude is simple; it is beautiful. It pleases the eye, and that is enough to satisfy me. I also find it comfortable with its own identity, it is what it is, and does not pretend to be anything but the highly individual vision of one man. You being of a more mechanical bent, obviously are irritated by certain engineering solutions. This is good; anomalies makes life interesting.

As to whether it should be called a Bugatti, allow me to provoke : It is just as much a Bugatti as the Veyron.

Kind Regards
Johan

One correction Johan, It is much more a Bugatti then the Veyron, the latter being as much a Bugatti as a VW-Beetle engined "Replica".

Let me stir further : VW has the legal title to the name Bugatti. Is there a place left for morality?
