Wow! Thanks. Which reminds me, I still have to finish the rest of the post about the Dovaz cars. He owned other Bugattis too, but some were scrapped and some he sold after keeping them only a relatively short time. And Eric has asked why he sold them ; I'm still trying to figure that one out myself.

But the rest of tonight is reading time - have a look at my book collection, a few more has come home!

Johan

“Dear Mister Herman Brouwer (Kievitsbloem 16 2811 RN REEUWIJK)
I am mister Collard, the french lawyer of the current owner of this car.
My client don’t agree with the fact you publish his name on your website.
Under the french law about private life, for each day his name will appear on your website about a car (actually noted by french ushers), we will require you 350€ for each car (or ‘chassis number’)
We will judiciary proceedings under the french legislation and jurisdiction. We actually undertake to complaint both dutch police and french police.
Regards.
Gilbert Collard – Marseille French Lawier of the current owner”

As you can see, the French Bugatti owners are very friendly towards me. It is also very noticable that they do seem to be able to send E-mails or messages to anyone, but me. No Email, no telephone call. Up till so far not a single French Bugatti owner that has caused trouble the last days has bothered to contact me. I did contact them, however, by phone, but none of the people that I was given phone numbers of, wanted to talk.

This forum is DUTCH, and based in THE NETHERLANDS. Dutch law applies. The WIKI is not accessable, except for friends. Dutch law explicitly states that sharing info among friends is not tied to privacy laws.

Also it is very nice to see a reaction from a French person who is bothered, but again, no contact information.

350 Euros per car per day? Who says crime doesn't pay?

First there was the deletions on Wiki, then Herman was forced to change the forum due to continued attacks from spammers, then Bugatti96 attacked Wiki again and now Mr X from Y wants to sue Herman for mentioning his name (actually Herman didn't do anything of the sort, I described the owner as "the mystery French owner", and a fellow contributor provided the name)

It would be easy to get discoured by these events, but another way of looking at is as follows : If nobody visited this site all information would have been irrelevant. These attacks are proof that Bugattibuilder.com is now the premier on-line Bugatti site. I am not completely without sympathy for the French owners and the difficulties they face with their relevant authorities, but this much I've learned ; people hardly ever get the government they want, but they always, but always get the government they deserve. It is futile blaming the Dutch for French lunacy.

Stay strong Herman, as the Americans say, as long as they keep shooting at you, you are doing the right thing. (Or words to that effect)

And one last thing, Dear Mr X from Y, a pleasure to make your acquaintance Sir. You have some fine Bugattis Sir, and I am looking forward to reading all about them and all others you may still buy on Bugattibuilder.com.

Kind Regards

I have done a bit of homework, and the IP address used to change the WIKI comes from a "Internet Transit" company in the USA (based in Los Angelos, but with servers in Washington).

Internet transit has its merits, but are also used to disguise the true IP address of a user....

Just a message for all of you that do not want information about you in person or your belongings on the Bugattibuilder webpage / forum / wiki…

Wiki -> You can edit yourself (or contact Herman)
Forum -> Contact Herman
Webpage -> Contact Herman

I doubt there is any law system that will support your case if you fail to do the above mentioned.

To my experience the info presented on all above mentioned webpages is mainly coming from registers and participation / starting lists of races / meetings. This is also the reason why I do not see the Wiki as “THE Bugatti register” but as “THE (FOR HERMAN’S FRIENDS) PUBLIC AVAILABLE Bugatti register”

like you said, french law doesn't apply since you are based in holland, also the server needs to be located in holland for that mather
but can't you countersue for hacking/stealing of information or something in that area?
i do believe they take cybercriminality pretty serious (at least here they formed a new unit just for that)

all this talk about sueing makes me almost feel a bit of an american :? :lol:

Is it still owned by the polite Mr X from Y? The interior was originally done in red leather by the way.

First of all to the statement of Lazarus. Dovaz had 22 Bugatti. All except one have been restored. So there was a reason for econimic restauration. In other words, it was worth to restore the cars. Please see our book to see the actual results.

Dovaz sold the cars in october 1990 for 2 reasons:
1. There was a threat of an enormous tax assessment.
2. Michel dovaz couldn't stand the comments on the state of his cars anymore.

We have had contact with the "unknown French Owner". A very nice man, who doesn't want that people know who he is. If you look in our book - in this threat I reconize a lot of our photos - you see many actual photos of the car. I think the man has a right to stay anonymous. Every now and than I have a very nice contact with him as the only of our three writers.
