I don't have any more pictures of the car that would show the license plate.

Thank you Christian for your research on the license plate, showing 1955!

Nice pictures. I had hoped that Christian would be able to come up with 3 pictures, where the different license numbers would be visible. (or perhaps the same...)

Just received a note on an Autosport "nostalgia forum" from David McKinney:

"I have a note saying the car was sold to Baron Guy de Roig, Paris, May 1927, and another saying it was with a Paris owner in 1945-46, then nothing until 'Brown, USA, 1983'
Have tried without success to find a source for the earlier notes, but I think the 1983 listing would have come from Conway's book"

Anyone have any thoughts on the credibility of this information? Grand Prix Bugatti by Conway shows the Factory date of May 1927 with the car delivered to a Paris showroom. Also, Willet Brown owned the car from 1963 to 1995. Also, Erik Koux said the car did reside in Paris at one point in time.

So all this corresponds with the information above.

Does anyone know about Baron Guy de Roig? Did he race cars?

thanks!

From http://www.autosport.com in the Nostalgia Forum:

In trying to confirm David McKinney's notes on 37265, here is his response, "Yes, the notes are for 37265
The Conway book would have been his Bugatti Grand Prix one
I thought the earlier references might have been in Eaglesfiled's Bugatti Book, but apparently not
Have you tried the Bugatti Owners' Club here in the UK? "

Then, on another response, received this link and picture from Robert Dick,
"Photo on a French forum (comment: Mr. le Baron Guy de Roig):"

If anyone else can find additional information on Baron Guy de Roig, I would greatly appreciate it!

Also, our best guess is that 37265 was delivered to it's first owner as a Grand Prix car, as I heard that, "I think all GP cars were supplied with the racing car body. You could of course have lights and cycle type fenders fitted, but that was all. But after the war when the cars were no more used for racing many GP cars were converted to sports cars with more or less sucessfull lines." So, most likely, after the war (approx. 1945-ish) is when the Roadster body (and possibly blower and alloy tires) were installed????

Here is a link to the forum where Baron Guy de Roig is shown. Unfortunately, no date or other info:

Christian,

We have found more pictures, and will post them soon. I have another license plate to try and track down. It is from the Bugantics and Molsheim Pilgramage article in 1950. The license plate at the time was either 9631 MDB or 9631 NDB or 9631 MD8 or 9631 ND8. Is there a way to track down the owner's name and registration year and place for this license plate?

Also, the other correct license plast is 4558 DT 75, and we have other pictures we will post later, that shows this.

thanks,

Andrew

I think that it is 9631-MD8 which is French registration. Department of Nord (59) registration between 1928 and 1950

9631-ND8 do not exist in France
9631 MDB and 9631 NDB do not exist in France

Thank you!

Christian, on the 4558 DT 75, you said registered in 1955 in department of the Seine. Was there a date range with this one also (like 1928-1950) or was it just the year 1955?

Do these registrations give any names, addresses or towns? or any other information?

thanks,

Andrew

Before 1950, the Web site does not give other information.
They are 9631-MD8 (F) between 1928 and 1950.
You can request from the Prefecture Nord if they can communicate other information to you:

Préfecture du Nord
12 rue Jean Sans Peur
59800 LILLE
FRANCE

Tél. 03 20 30 57 50 or 03 20 30 59 59

I have asked to see if anyone knows any additional information on Mr. le Baron Guy de Roig, but no answers. If we can't track him to 37265, does anyone know his history? Did he race cars? Was he part of a royal family?

Also, does anyone know more about Jacques Buson? It seems like he owned or sold 5 different Bugatti's. Was he a dealer? Did he just like to collect Bugatti's?

Please help!

thanks,

Andrew
