Does anybody know what became of the Bugatti T35 based special campaigned successfully by Irwin Catherwood in Ireland in the early 1950s?

The car had a 3.6L Ford engine (straight 8 or straight 6?) and "adjusted" front axle to compensate camber for non-Bugatti (Packard?) kingpins and hubs.

Dear Jakey:
The T35 you reference was discovered and purchased by Ivan Dutton in the mid-1980's and restored by him as a T35B. It is chassis no. 4818 and is now owned by Allan and Alex Rippon in the UK. The UK registration is YF 9697.

I flew out to see this car in N.Ireland.The previous engine was a sidevalve V8 Ford not a straight eight. :)

Dear copperkettle, Dear Lazarus,

Thanks.

All sounds interesting - are there any pictures of the car anywhere (other than the single pic in the WIKI):

- before the Ford engine and modified axle?
- with the "foreign" parts?
- since restoration?

Where did the current engine (110A according to the WIKI) come from? Is it in any way connected with the chassis?

What is known about 4818's earlier history?

Dear Jakey:
I "PM'ed" you, but in case others are interested, David Sewell wrote an article on the 1930 to 1996 history of 4818 in Bugantics, Vol. 59, No. 3 (Autumn 1996), pages 39 to 42. There is one photo of the car with the Ford engine and a very "E.R.A." looking front end when it was known as the U.S.R., "Urney Special Racer".
The crankcase presently fitted is actually no. 10 with non-boxed crankcase legs, open to the front or rear, I forget which! It was previously fitted (not originally) to 4887, but removed when restored as it had been badly damaged in an accident.
Best,
CK
