Conway's 1973 "Bugantics" Register as well as Laugier's unpublished 1989 Register both say it is
chassis no. 4532.

"Laugier's unpublished 1989 Register" This fabled manuscript is also mentioned in the Dutch Register. Why was it never published and how may I obtain a copy?

It is, of course, easier to apologise than to ask permission, so perhaps someone can, completely by accident, of course, post the entire thing on the Forum and then Herman can keep it on just long enough to enable known troublemakers, such as my glorious self, to print it, before issuing an apology to all those owners fearing The Truth, and then move it to the deleted threads Forum. Simple yet elegant.

I have a feeling such a post might create quite a bit of interest. I would gladly do the post myself, but I, unlike our esteemed comrade-in-arms Copperkettle, do not have a copy of Pierre-Yves Laugier's Holy Grail. I wonder if CK has my e-mail address?

After all, what's the worst that can happen?

Kind Regards
Johan Buchner

PS. The gentleman from Wales suggested a World Register for Bugatti. Surely the leaking of the Laugier Register will bring this brilliant idea just that bit closer to reality?

Pending the return of my type 30 from Duttons I've been putting some serious effort into a basic register of all "Pur Sang" Molsheim-built Bugattis completed in Ettore's lifetime : i.e. types 10 - 64. Entries are three or four lines long, giving dates of manufacture, invoicing and delivery, main owners, present location, etc. I will include the name of the cars' present owners if it is already in the public domain.

So far I've completed entries for all type 10 to type 30 cars ie. chassis nos. 361-4736. I have included cars which are known to have been scrapped and cars which have a continuous history but might have been rebuilt or upgraded at Molsheim as a result of accident damage etc. I have not, however, listed cars of uncertain provenance where the present owner is unable or unwilling to prove the car's originality or cars based on new components.

I will bring a few draft copies of the register to Molsheim in September (DV).

Ah, another register to verify the www.bugattiregister.com data.

This suggests I should make an entry for more or less original cars, and for "butchered" cars. Let's see how I could do that.

Johan:

It was never published because: A.) It was produced for a small group of Registrar's and B.) It really isn't a register...it is a listing of known Bugattis in France (in 1989) and their chassis numbers and owner's last names. For example:

"x 4532...Feray"

The "x" means in PYL's footnotes that he was 95% sure of the ownership in the name listed. I know Pierre would prefer the document remain confidential, so I will honor his wishes. If one has a specific question regarding a chassis number and whether it was in France around 1989, I am willing to confirm or deny this piece of intelligence, within reason.

Thanks for the feedback CK. If it is the author's wish that the contents of this document remain confidential, then so it shall be. Period.

I really do not understand why (most? / some?) French Bugatti owners are so secretive. Pity really, I would have thought sharing one's treasures would add rather than detract from owning a Bugatti.

Thank you to those who do share - it sure adds quality and texture to the Bugatti experience for non-owners.

Kind Regards
Johan
