The "Automobiles of the Maharajas" mentions on pg 220 that
"In 1931, the cricketing prince, the Jamsahib 'Ranji' of Nawanagar imported a 5-liter, 8-cylinder, Bugatti with a flamboyant, sporting boat-tail body by Corsica Coachworks with mouldings depicting flashes of lightning on the sides and equipped with twin stepneys"

I once heard of a few bits surviving of a Bugatti down South somewhere. I wonder if they are from this car.

Elisabeth Junek in India, 1929. She took 2 type 44s with here, and sold at least one of them. (to Mehta Freres in Bombay)

List of cars that went into India before 1947:

Around 21 Bugattis came to India prior to 1947

Maharajas of:
Jodhpur - Type 13 Torpedo Tourer
Yeshwant Rao Holkar- Type 13 Boattail 16-valve Brescia
Type 57 Atlantic Coupe (Which one??? Or Atalante?)
Alwar - two door sporting model
Nawanagar - 5 Liter / 8-Cyl (maybe car I had pictures of before)
Idar - Type 35C
J.R.D. Tata - Type 35C (is this Mr. Tata, that produces cars now?)

Type 13 with a Austin radiator in Rajasthan
Bugatti Type 57 or 57C in South india but the engine had been used for an alternative purpose... and all that was left was the front mudguards.

Can someone fill in chassisnumbers / pictures / info?

Attached are pictures of an "ex-Indore" "Type 23" with widely modified body, De-Soto engine, etc. Bugatti badge was re-rivetted to the new Radiator. Owned by Soileen Banerjee from Jodhpur (2004). Sold somewhere after that and now with Manvendra Singh Barwan for restauration.

Current status???
