In the book Memoirs of a Bugatti hunter of Antoine Raffaëlli page 222, there is a photo of this one and it is specified that it is Bugatti Type 38. |

Here is the picture. I will see if I can make a better one. This one is really blurry. The text says: T38 with streamline body, made of fabric. (which does not help to preserve it. It the car still somewhere, has it been rebodied, or has it been scrapped?) ![]() |

Yes, better make a regular scan instead of a picture. It is in fact a known body, fabric - covers were not uncommon, in fact both the fabric or the metal covered bodies had a wooden frame. Advantage of the fabric was that it could flex more, where metal sheet, in case of extreme chassis/body flex could actually wrinkle. In the roof of some of the T50T Profiléé's therefore a large part is cut-out and covered with fabric. Apparently the roof was too big, and the flex too much to allow for metal sheeting. If this body (or the car) still exists? I doubt it, I haven't seen or heard of it being around still. An interesting design for a rebocy / replica though! (And of course a much better top speed and mileage per gallon!) |
