What can we conclude from that?

-there is only limited interest in that sort of cars
-the other 5 ltr has more "pedigree" probably.

Was the intended sale of this car triggered by the amount the other 5 ltr (Black Bess) fetched?

I don't think the problem is the kind of car. Prewar cars in general have problems with the right price at the moment. See what trouble I have to sell the ex-Dovaz (sleeping beauty) Bugatti Coach Ventoux. When the economy of the world gets better, I think that the prices at auctions become better. If you don't have to sell you better wait one or two years. When you want to buy it's just the right time. You cvan do magnificent deals.

first if all. a financial crisis is hardly the reason for sinking prices on valuable goods. in times we have now, people intend to by long-time valuables ( collectables ) instead of expansive consume ones.
the T 16 is very special bugatti with a very high value for there are inly two in private hands. with the amount for such "ONE" car, you can buy three, four five other type-bugattis ( T57, T3o, T4o, T49..)to have
more fum riding this grand marque.even you can set up a small collection of veteran/edwardian cars or
buy some real sports-cars of the 2o`s and 3o`s to compaigne at VSCC events.
so byers of these "lonesome cowboy cars" are very few and this T16 comes up in auction after only some months of the "black bess sale". compare it with the sale of the ex williamson T57sc and the ex harrah`s yellow T57sc some time ago.
for your own trouble in selling the douvaz-T57: I dont know how much you add on the normal price of a T57ventoux for It`s a douvaz car?? maybe too much. douvaz as former owner is for shure not as interesting
as chiron, benoist ir tritigniant as I think.

It made me think, but it didn't change my opinion. The fact, that we have sold far more books in Holland as usual for the kind of books, the fact, that our web site is visited more than 100.000 times in one year, the fact that I had many, many questions by male to buy one of the 12 "sleeping beauties" that Michel still has and the fact, that Veloce (!!!!) wants to bring out the book worldwide in English and that there still are a German and French publisher considering publishing the book in German and French, tells me, that there is a huge interest in the person Michel Dovaz. So I don't understand your words about Michel Dovaz.

Than, the prices in general - so the prices of Bugatti, too - of prewar cars are under preasure the last 6, 7 months. Pebble Beach, Bohams, Retromobile of the last half year made that clear. The time, that a car is for sale for much time than they were a year ago. That's why I stated, that is is a very good time to buy, but if you want to sell you better can wait. I still stick to that statement.

Last remarque. The Dovaz Bugatti Ventoux was at first for sale for a big price. At the moment, the car is for sale for a comparable price. If you are interested, I'm glad to tell you.

indeed, to own an ex-dovaz car would be a thing, but restored, they ain`t sleeping beauties no more.
the steering wheel in a T35, once in the hands of louis chiron , will ever be something great to hold it in your own hands. but thats my opinion, don`t worry, I`ll allways will love the dovaz cars.
prices: when I get started interesting on old cars and bugattis in the mid 7o`s, there hardly had been bugattis in auctions. only a few dealers like C.howard, s.langton or coys had one or two bugattis for sale.
with the increasing of high price auctions at the end of the 8o`s, it seems that minimum one bugatti
is on sale in every auction. the strangest thing is, that certain bugattis turn up in auctions during months....
to go back to the T16. the early bugattis have never been interestings as the racing bugs T35,37,51 or the
great touring cars. remember, the third oldest bugatti in existance, fully restored did `nt match the price of an ordinary T57 ventoux some months ago. the black bess has history from new, while the T16 was rebuild
from a pile of parts in the late 6o`s.

At the moment I know a T13 of 1925 for sale, Pebble Beach condition, matching numbers for just E.200K.
