This car is not listed in Bolster's "specials" nor in Bateman's "the enthousiasts guide to vintage Specials" nor in Dussek's "motoring specials" Still I would like to know more. Alas there is no book on Invicta (except for one issue of profile publications) to research Regards, Bart

With an Invicta radiator and body.Where did this photo come from? |

I found it on motorbase.com http://staging.motorbase.com/profiles/p ... nvicta;p=1 and later also on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.fr/FA-BUGATTI-INVICTA-S ... 10001r5986 I too am interested in the Bugatti/Invicta share It looks like a Bugatti Chassis I agree - and yes the visible rest looks like a Invicta regards Bart |

thanks Gerrit seems you have the collectors-card in question ? Is this all the info on it ? 6 cyl 4,5 L is Invicta S-type spec. : seems improbable that the Bugatti gearbox is fitted to it so then the chassis is probably the major Bugatti-part (typ 38 or 40 ?) in this special. Still I hope to hear more: does it still exist in this form or maybe it has been split to reconstruct 2 beautyful cars. I will e-mail Derek Green: he is the keeper of the Invicta club UK register: if i hear more I will post it here. Regards, Bart |

The shape of the dumbirons appears to be too curved for a Bugattis chassis. Bugattis have very shallow curved items. Rod Amos |

Derek Green, Invicta Specialist, answered almost within an hour: He does not know the car, not as a Bugati nor as a Invicta His reaction after seeing the picture was that it might be a High-chassis Invicta frame with a Bugatti Engine Seeing the 6 (?) branch exhaust header this can not be since Bugatti is 4 of 8 cilinders only. So I am still puzzled, but tend to think it is a (part?) Bugatti Chassis + Invicta Body (quite clearly) and most probably Invicta Engine and gearbox To be continued.... Bart |

Just found this info on the other Bugatti-site (Jaap's) so we have a little progress, but not much since the same question was on Jaap's site (november 2007): Bugatti - Invicta This special was built in 1953 by Air Commander Scroggs, using a Bugatti chassis (of unknown type), with a army surplus 6 cylinder truck engine, plus an Invicta transmission and radiator. See the specifications

I am curious to learn the frame number of the chassis. But it still is a bit of a mystery to me. Inserting a relatively heavy truck engine in a relatively light Bugatti chassis... |

There is not even the smallest indication that it concerns a Bugattii chassis. The picture shows it is not even close. Bugwrench |

Perhaps another "invention" of the card-producing company. Or a good story to make a car more glorious... I do not see a Bugatti chassis, not a Bugatti body, no front axle, no Bugatti engine. Apperently not the gearbox. What is left is the rear axle, which cannot be identified from the pictures, but to name the car a Bugatti because the use of a Bugatti rear axle? In that case I am driving a Volvo. My car shares more parts with certain types of Volvos then this car with Bugattis... |
