Dear uwe,

according to the bugatti register 2008-2009 The Netherlands, Belguim:

The original 43258 was completed in June 1928 with engine 89 (production number 3) and delivered as a chassis to Bucar in Switzerland.

Originally 43258 had a grand sport body but later in the thirties it received a more modern body in Switzerland. It still has the original engine 89. It had been suggested that engine 89 might have been put in the car at a later date thereby making in "43258". but it is vehemently denied as a possibility by the curators of the Museum in Mulhouse. As it now seems, the Mulhouse car has been the only real 43258 from the start.

It seems there are 2 T43: '43258' with engine 132
and #43258 with engine 89 (Molsheim)

Best regards,

Arnoud op de Weegh

In 1954 car 43258 was listed in the ownership of G. Hakansson (sic) in Stockholm, Sweden with the note that the car had a shortened frame and was ex-Leopold. The owner was then seeking a normal length frame.

In 1962 the car was listed as "(43258) with engine 132" with Hakanson in Vallingby, Sweden fitted with original blue GS coachwork. History was listed as ex-Leopold. Sold to Sweden in 1932, raced by Lindberg and Jonsson. Car being rebuilt. "The above number although stamped on the case is not original; the car number is probably 43291"

Who can help? A disorder. Thanks

Museum catalog: chassis no. 4594 > probably 51124

Conway: 4594 (no reference to Mulhouse) see 51159

Conway: 51124 (no reference to Mulhouse) 51159 merged with 4596

The car is without any doubt #51124

The museum catalog indicates the engine number 28 for #51124 > belongs to #4594. I think thereby develop the connection with #4594 ...

Who can enlighten me on this rather cryptic statements?
- what exactly says the museum catalogue?
- what engine is in the museum car (type and no.)?
- why is the car "without doubt" 51124?
- what is Conway's exact statement concerning 4594/51159?
- and what concerning 51124/51159/4596?

Uwe:

You have no outside contact information, so I must ask you here. You posted a photo of the 57618 chassis last month after we discussed this car several years ago. Where did the chassis end up? We know where the body is now...

Thanks,

Sandy
