57454 This chassis number was possibly used on five different cars ???? : Firstly, the Le Mans “Tank” with a "factory date" listed as 26th June 1936. Secondly, a type 57 rolling chassis which appears in the factory records with no engine number given. With 57455 it is listed as having been invoiced to the Paris Showroom on 2nd June, 1937. Thirdly : A car for Gabriele (sic) Duhoux of Brussels ? with “Belg.Coupé ?” coachwork, engine no. 2S and registration no. 1521 NV4 (issued on 2nd June, 1938 for Ettore Bugatti). Fourthly ; a type 64 “Coach special” with engine no. 2 of which was used by Ettore. Finally, the prototype type 101 fitted with a coupé by Gangloff for the 1951 Paris Motor Show and now at Mulhouse. NB - Car 57453 was listed under chassis no. 57454 as having been transferred to Bordeaux at the beginning of WW2. |

Mr Pracht sent a letter dated 29th September 1939 to works body shop in 15, Rue du Débarcadère, Paris, in which he requested Mr Girardot to transfer the registration 1521-NV4 of the Coach gris used by Mr de Boigne to the Coach spécial Type 64. The registration office issued the licence to that of the Atlantic described above. It can only be guessed that Mr Pracht's entry on the >Belg. Coupé< also refers to Type 64 or that it was another attempt to cause deliberate confusion by swapping chassis numbers and registration. According to the said letter a Coach spécial Type 64 existed with chassis no 57454 and was used by Ettore Bugatti. |

It should of course be remembered that The UK and France made declarations of war against Germany on 3rd September 1939. What lay ahead would be a long period when many cars were destroyed, stolen, confiscated, abandoned, buried, hidden and scrapped. Many strange things will have happened which, at this late state, will never be explained. |
