Hi Herman, It's not a Bugatti, its a Dearborn Ford special. There was an article about this car in http://www.prewarcar.com a year ago. Text below. Glenn Billqvist from Sweden will strongly protest when you call his Ford Model A Racer a Bugatti look-a-like! His intention was to build a typical 1920s racer but yes, he did use a Bugatti body (except for the radiator). The chassis is standard Ford Model A, fitted with Buick drums. The Engine is a Ford A (G28T) with an Ardun head (Over head Valve) and dual Stromberg 81´s. The power should be in a range of 110-120 HP. The Ford A Racer is now ready to go. We think it’s a successful project, Glenn, and hopefully you will have a lot of fun both on the road and on the circuit. But then, what shall we call it? Tell us! Update II by Pieter Vos: "A Ford chassis and running gear with a Bugatti body has been done before in 1936, when Sidney Allard discovered a wrecked 1935 Ford V-8 coupe not too far from his shop in the London suburb of Putney. He towed the wreck home on a Friday, started dismantling and rebuilding it on Monday, and by the following Saturday had the first Allard Special (to carry the name) running. The frame had been shortened, significantly lightened, and fitted with a 1932 Ford front end, which weighed less than the 1935 assembly. For a body Allard used the ex-Lord Howe Type 51 Bugatti body, complete with its pointed tail!" UPDATEs: Lots and lots of updates came in: Fred Heming: “I would call it a FAB. Robb Stewart: “Billqvist Ford Special". Frans Thijs: “Probably I'm not the only one who would call this beautifully executed special a Fordatti.” Stuart Penketh: “It can't be called a Bugatti since it is Left Hand Drive, and FAB 1 is Lady Penelope's car! But it's provenance should show through, Ford Model A Special (Bugatti bodied by Billqvist) I think it looks great !” |
