Greg's assurances are nice...proof would be better.

DeDobbeleer's well-distributed list of Bugattis sold to the US and elsewhere has the entry, Type 41, chassis complete. Origin is listed as "no" and particulars, "not for sale actually." Sometime later, in Bugantics, if memory serves me correctly, it was revealed that he sold the Royale to an American who didn't want his identity revealed as he wanted to restore (recreate?) the car and show up at a Bugatti gathering and, (my words), blow everybody's minds. I believe Judge John North was the source of this information.

The late Edsel Pfabe's name has been mentioned in this connection.

I am not saying it didn't happen...it may have, but the whispy vapors of this story build little or no confidence. As this all supposedly happened about half a century ago, the silly secrecy seems unnecessary...unless it is an important part of the myth.

Proof, sir...please!

Sandy

Edsel Pfabe had 6 Bugatti in all... He did not recall modifying the frame on any of them. He has spoken fondly of the 37 GP he had and would love to see a photo if any one would forward one to me. helosixx@gmail.com

He has also mentioned that he liked the Type 55 he had very much however bought it mid restoration and sold it before completed. The type 44 he had he didn't car for... "that was an ugly car"

As for Edsel being late, he's never been late for any thing in his life. He's 94 and lives in south FLA

we all know , everything is connected with money . To find out , if this chassis is original or not , follow who made some profit out of it .
who has found it ?
who sold it ?
Who bought it
the buyer has resold it ? if so to whom ?
Nobody will tell you for how much , but if you can find some names in the chain , well known for fake items ......
Greg is part of the food chain , so he will not tell you anything .

Gee Udo - you sure know how to win friends and influence people.

I have studied the Type 41 for the last thirty years and with regard to the Prototype Royale and my place in the "food chain" on the project, it is to use that acquired knowledge and collate all the data and model every component in 3D, from where it is constructed with the aid of cnc. In this way we have been able to remake all of the missing parts needed to reanimate the prototype Royale that was wrecked in April 1931 using its twisted frame, front axle and major pieces of its engine as the base. These modern engineering methods have enabled a very small but dedicated group of people to work closely together and in the space of a year and a half, resurrect the Packard bodied Royale that was presented in front of the crowds at the festival in Molsheim last September, a sight not seen since 1928. I don't think even the most hardnosed or green eyed cynics could disagree that the quality of work was impeccable.

If we have appeared tight lipped about the project, it is because we have tried to save all the facts for a book that is to be written about this fascinating project in the near future.

If you wish to liken me to just a link in a food chain, at least I am above the level of Phytoplankton - a situation, alas, not shared with you.
