Hi there, this is my first post, so you will have to forgive me if I do not follow the correct procedures, but I am sure I will learn over time as we all do!

I recently attended “La Vie en Bleu 2010” at Prescott (a brilliant event by the way), where I acquired an enamel Bugatti radiator badge, with it came a letter of provenance, stating that the badge was given to the recipient (a paramedic) as a gift of thanks for his help and medical attention by the driver of a vehicle (the letter of provenance calls it a “1928 Bugatti Grand Prix car”) that was involved in a serious accident during a VSCC meeting at Oulton Park in 1992.

I have tried to contact the VSCC to try and find out more about the vehicle involved, as I would like to trace its history if possible. I thought that maybe the VSCC would perhaps have records of major incidents at their events, but although I remain hopeful, as yet I have had no response.

The only additional information I can impart is that the badge has square dots around the edge of the badge, which I understand would make it pre-1929 as they changed from square to round dots at about this time.

Any information or ideas on where to look next would help, thanks.

By the looks of it, I think it is an original.

I do not have info on crashes, however. But someone must know?

I could be wrong but for some reason I think this might be a replica badge that was produced as part of a set of car badges of all different makes that were sold together, usually on a plinth or framed plaque of some sort. It looks suspiciously like ones that I have seen.

Check the one I have. It can be found here. From mine I can be sure it is an original. It has suffered a lot, so more discoloration in the read area, which yours seem to have as well.
The replicas I have are a lot more "clean" in appearance.

Hi Chris and Herman, thank you both for your comments, I guess it is sometimes difficult to tell with replicas, so I have to be guided by your experience, can anyone else add anything please?

Apart from the EB not being central...slightly right of centre...

It has probably been discussed previously, but Is there a reason for the change of dots and /or squares on the outer oval ?

On a genuine badge, you can very much feel the bumps where one colour becomes another colour. Always bear in mind that it is far easier to get a copy than the real thing.

The company that made badges for all the french manufacturers was still in business quite recently and so "original" badges have almost always been available. There was however a change in the manner in which the enamels were applied which may have reduced the thickness of the raised sections.

If you look at mine (with remnants of the radiator still attached) you will notice the quality of the badge can best be described as a disaster.

The G is faulty, one of the dots is faulty, and indeed, the enamel used must have been quite sluggish, you can indeed feel the black on top of the red.

The rest is scratches and discoloration (black pitting)
