Here's a subject for discussion. A Bugatti bitza owner from Holland assumes an identity of a car that is lost, or broken up. Nothing survives from the lost Bugatti, yet the bitza owner assumes the chassis number and obtains a title or carte gris. (Remember a carte gris like a DMV5 is NOT an ownership document - those are just circulation documents for traffic. A title is an ownership document.) The Bitza owner sells his ''car'' to a new Bugattist who over a few years is sure it's real. So he buys all sorts of original parts and makes it even more real. His file is thick, and rumor is maybe a oil cap is original, but the rest is non-sense. Suddenly, a guy in Liverpool appears with his newly made replica Bugatti that he got cheap off of Ebay. He has no documents at all, so he assumes the same number of the Bitza guy and buys a ''package'' off of some Web-Site that even has the original chassis plate. He convinces his DMV office to issue a new road document. The two are driving on a rally. One crashes into the other. The police come, see that the numbers are the same. The insurance company is called, and they see that both Bugatti's have the same number. Who is entitled to the number? ![]() ![]() |
