Type 30: what is this?

Post subject:  Type 30: what is this?

On the passenger side of the cast aluminum bulkhead on my car I have this small steel fitting. It is

identical to the one on 4486 (see photo) though mine no longer has the lever. It looks as though it pulls a cable, but what would this cable do and why is it mounted under the dash?

It is the handle to operate the valve in the exhaust system by means of a cable.
Below this handle you will find either a small pulley or at least the tiny holes for fitting this pulley on the chassis rail.

Bugwrench, thanks, that makes sense. Does anyone have information on the original exhaust cut-out?

how many sensors would cry out ...not real..
prefer levers and things that work by hand...

the Veyron owner has a whole load of Papparazzi crying out that he is on his way. No need for a horn (or exhaust) at all!
