Hello, someone has told me that the GP cars had an oblong piece of wood with a hollow at one narrow end to fit under either axle and a curve onto the longer side at the other-acting as a pivot... so it is pushed under either axle diagonally and the car moved over , rolling on the curve and it lifts enough to change a wheel... lightweight, quick and less fiddly than a jack and handle. if this is so -it sounds feasible !! does anyone have measurements please ? or maybe it was a leg pull. |

Yes, this is true. On GP cars, there is no room to take a jack with you. However, a flat piece of board can be straped to the spare wheel without a problem. I have a huge pile of Bugantics, in which there are photos of these jacks. Will need to search for the right one, though. Which brings me to the following: Is there an index somewhere for Bugantics? There are several nice articles, but without knowing where to find them... If there is nothing, why not do a joint effort and create one? The Bugattibuilder.com WIKI is very suitable for that. |

Hi, the bugatti jack for GP cars was made of steel with an alluminium wheel. It looks cool and is quite handsome. There are two types, for one wheel ore both wheels. Jan Kreyer in Germany made some nice replicas. It isn't true, that there is no space in a GP car for an ordinary jack. With some tricks I got nearly all the tools you need to dismantle the whole car underneath the drivers seat. bietbert |

Are you refering to the quick lift jacks used in pit areas for lifting one or both wheels quickly ? that pivot on a long handle to lever. not one that is used for roadside removal of a wheel... Very useful to know about both types David. |

That is interesting, I knew only the big ones made in steel. When there are some pictures in Bugantics Vol49/4 it would be interesting if someone can make scans and post them to the forum. |

I can remember me a complete different car jack. I saw it in a Bugatti book, made from steel piping. I didn't have most of my Bugatti books anymore, but a period photograph was taken at the Le mans event when a T43 did a tire job. Please help me find the picture. It was a L shape non adjustable jack, with the L upwards ready to place unter the axle, and when in place, only pull down the L lever down. The car wheel was lifted, and was a stable place to do a tire job. Greetz, Jean B |

The clever wooden jack weighs about 300 grams and can be carried under the spare tire leather strap. Bugwrench |

wonderful, thank you all who sent the fotos. It is so simple but effective..very much in keeping with the car..it should not be too difficult to work the measurements out and produce an effective piece...now the concept is evident..if drawings do not appear available. I might have a play with card and plywood .... and keep you up to date. david |
