Sure enough ................. quote from Hugh Conway in a Bugantics article: If you have an original crankshaft, it's cracked".
the T44 crank shows multiple cracks at various locations. So onward to the next question - where to acquire a new manufactured crank?

I see that Brineton Engineering shows on their web site that they have one available. Anybody aware of one of theirs with some miles on it? Anybody else known to have T44 cranks available?

On to the connecting rods magnaflux next.

Worth bothering to magnaflux the cam? I have never bothered to do that on any other car or motorcycle engine I've ever built, but then again, we've never seen a Rolls or Bentley cracked either. So I'm getting paranoid. I've seen a few Continental and Lycoming aircraft cranks cracked, but almost always as a result of a "sudden stoppage".

after remachining many Bugatti parts , I think Bugatti had big problems with heat treatment . Many old aircraft engines like WW1 and older have the same problem . Mostly forgeng-pockets . But all did fly for many years with this problem . Buy some 4140 and make a new one , but make it from one part , not split in the middle . And in the end , magnaflux all parts .

Keep in mind proper radii at inner corners. They should be relatively large to prevent stress cracks.

yes , big radiuses . Modern bearings are not so wide any more compare to the old ones .
