Post subject: | Type 59 in hillclimbs |
I follow this excellent forum for some time now but I have very seldom posted. I am interested in Bugattis in hillclimbs and more specialy by the type 59 raced in the late forties by Georges Abecassis (#59121). I consider to modify a BBurago 1/18 model to the real looks it has during that period but I still have a few questions. 1, Shape of the tail: When comparing the two photographs on the Wiki page devoted to #59121 it seems that in side view the volume of the tail has been greatly altered. It is much higher in the picture with G.Abecassis at the wheel and sligthy lower on the other than on the original when it was a factory car. Does anybody has an idea why? 2, Colour: There has been an argument going on another forum about the colour of the different T59 raced in hillclimb (J.Lemon Burton, doc Taylor, G.Abecassis) but no satisfactory answer. When G.Abecassis bought #59121 from John Gaul who owned it during the war it was painted "a peculiar shade of mauve"(Motor, September 12 1981). What was the colour it was repainted after that, blue, reddish brown, BRG or almond green? 3- Steering wheel: When owned by Arthur Baron #59121 was fitted a 150 ENV pre-selector gearbox actuated by a steering-column shift and a Bowden cable system. On the different photos I have seen of G.Abecassis driving the car it seems that it has a non Bugatti steering-wheel looking like those mounted on british sport-cars of that time like the Jaguar SS. Maybe it is related to the gear-shift, am I right and does anybody has any picture of the cockpit of that car? Sorry for my english but I'm french and lack training. Vive La Marque. Soling |
