Our friend Jaap on his website http://www.bugattipage.com/2005news.htm
shows this photo

with the capture "Most probably the German Ernst-Günther Burggaller with the broken axle on 17th of July, 1932, at the Nürburgring. Possibly his last race with the T35 B engine, but the car already having been altered to Monoposto specification. Subsequently Burggaller would exchange the engine with a T51A, and continue to race with it in the 1500cc class."
It was the other way round, in 1932 the car was changed from T35B to T51A (and renumbered to #51134), and only in 1933 the monoplace conversion took place.

The photo shows not E.G. Burggaller, but Rudolf Steinweg. He bought #51134 from Burggaller in 1935, but the photo shows another car - the ex Charlie Kappler, ex Prinz Hermann zu Leiningen T35C, which was accquired by Steinweg in 1934, and converted to monoplace.
The picture was taken at the 1934 Eifelrennen at the Nürburgring, where Steinweg retired with a broken rear axle.

Steinweg owned 2 cars, the T51A (#51134) for the 1.5 litre voiturette class, and the T35C for the 2 litre class and the GP class, both - as it seems - converted to monoplace. In November 1935 he had a fatal accident during training at the Guggerberg (near Budapest) hillclimb, most probably with the T35C, because that car disappeared. The T51A changed hands various times, and was even raced in the early postwar period.

What can I say? Perfect information!!

I will transfer this info to the WIKI as well, so it gets saved under the chassis number.

According to Conway the #51134 would be a ex T39 and would have belonged to Willy Escher (CH) in 1932

Correct!
I never crosschecked this, because the #51134 for the Burggaller car is accepted fact since decades.
Possible explanation: he bought the engine of the Escher car.
