if a 57 got converted from cable brakes to hydraulic brakes , how many parts got changed ? For sure the brake shoes . What about the brake plate holding the brake shoes . Only some holes drilled or must it be a different one ?

Everything gets changed,shoes,drums,backplates.

In this case , the change to hydraulic brakes was certainly quite expensive .

All 57s came with cable operated brakes from new, but many were later modified with hydraulic. All 57s had the later, stiffer engine mounting.

Greg , I have fotos from T57s chassis with the early engine mount , no rubber .

In Conway's profile publications book,no. 41..it says that the cable brakes were replaced in 1938 by lockheed hydraulics with twin master cylinders.
It also mentions that after about 300 chassis, the rubber engine mountings were installedto reduce vibration levels..
This necessitated heavy cross bracing to the chassis to replace the stiffness previously given by the solid mounted engine.

I merely put down what Conway wrote..
but offered is not the same meaning as fitted.
offered gives a choice.I presume fitted was a factory decision.

There are two completely different hydraulic brake systems for T57 Bugatti. The original "aftermarket" Lockheed system has modified lockheed steel backplates with rivited adaptors to fit the Bugatti stubaxles.Bugatti then made his own more attractive aluminium parts. The japanese t57 which I converted has the original lockheed system.
