I think that the Bugatti T44 Chassis No 441074/1 should change to 1930 Bugatti T44 Profilee Chassis No 441320 with Engine No 1074. When I was looking at the 1929 Bugatti T44 Profile Chassis No 44784 with Engine No 1074. I have a friend in England John he has the T44 Chassis and Engine numbers lists. I emailed him and he said Engine No 1074 came out of 441320. Back in March 2001 I was reading a car mag and saw an auction for a 1930 Bugatti T44 Profile Coachwork by Jean Bugatti for sale.

- #44784 was with engine #544
- #'44784'-1 with 490 engine ex 44760
- #'44784'-2 , engine unknown
- Where is currently the engine 1074?
- '44784'-1 identified as 441074 for the “bugatti centenary 1981”, > could be T44 Profilee 1930 (441320) with n° 1074 engine ??????

Enclosed is a picture of the auction in April 2001. Rest my case. Also when I enquired about the Bugatti. Rafael Pueche said that 44784 had Engine No 1074.

The Bugatti Book: Bugatti "The 8-Cylinder Touring Cars 1920-1934 Types 28, 30, 38, 38a, 44 and 49". Look at pages 104-105 you will see a photo 441074 Cabriolet Body by Reuflet. Also in the International Bugatti Register it states that 441074 got a licence plate 44 ZW 91 (F) in 1988. Enclosed is a photo of 441074 out of the book.

Hello!1929bug!
I think you make a mistake:
If you want to know the engine's number of any Bugatti, you have to look on the front right side arm of this engine. The number Mr Pueche told you, is the frame number, which is stamped on the rear left side arm of the engine too. The international bugatti register (on the web), give the indication you need, but you can ask to Mr. Pueche for confirmation.
Escuse me for my very basic english, and good luck in your researches!
Vive la Marque, E.L.

Hi,

Are these numbers original stamping or restamped at a later stage.
Are they of correct size and form?
On T57's they are much larger.

Greetings:

minime

They are not engine numbers they are a chassis number stamped on the engine leg though as minime says they seem the wrong size for 44 as well perhaps a re-stamping?

I visited with my father that T44 when it still was in Switzerland with its previous owner.
The body proportions looked quite strange to us as it seemed to be Ventoux style on a much too short and narrow T44 chassis.
The body must be of a later built as the style is not typical for the time frame the T44's were made.
During the time we were looking to buy a T44 or a T57 I was also in contact with a well-known Dutch dealer who was sending me some information on the vehicles he had for sale.
I contacted that dealer as he was offering his help and I was sending him some pictures of that T 44784-1 to know if he had more information about that car.
His answer was that most probably it is a car built years ago by Henry Lalanne with some funny proportions and lots of parts from different sources and that apparently there were even 2 of these bodies existing.

Interesting enough that same dealer offered that same car short time after our conversation for sale.
The T44 was then on a sales stand from Mr. Pueche at Techno Classica in Essen which he was jointly running with that same Dutch dealer I guess.
The T44 only had an overspray in total black.

At least I learned once more that you always should be careful with whom you share your information.

Greetings:

minime
