Unfortunately, no pictures - I didn't want to stop staring. I'm thinking it was a Type 35 with a narrow grille (B?), or a 37. Had wire wheels. It had a few Rally stickers on it, one was from Watkins Glen. Gentleman driving had a furry dark beard and glasses and his wife (assuming here) was with him. I know it's not much to go on, but I'm just kind of curious. It's the first one I've seen out on the road and would like to know more about it. Thanks for any info! Brian |

Wire wheels indicates type 35A or type 37 (or T39, but very unlikely). (if it is not a T35, T35C, T35B converted to wire wheels, which is also unlikely). But indeed, Sandy might know which car it was. In any case, you could do a search on www.bugattiregister.com, or on the photo section of this site. |

Here I am...back from 10 days in Europe... Of the GP Bugattis which participated in the 2007 American Bugatti Grand Prix and subsequent ABC rally, only 4 cars were wire wheeled. My 37387; David Duthu's 4631; Sarah Rheault's 37144 and George Davidson,'s "BC066". None of these folks have beards and all but the Rheault T37 have been no where near Bar Harbor in the recent past. Sarah lives in Camden, Maine, therefore I can only assume it was 37144 and that she was allowing a bearded friend (perhaps John Schramm...her bearded mechanic) to drive it. Cheers, Sandy |

Thanks! Hope you had a wonderful time - where all did you go? I've been leaning towards Sarah's car as well, 37144. I'm going with that one since it makes the most sense. |

Paris; Normandy; Mont St. Michel and London. The only Bugatti I saw was the Carlo Bugatti "57S" floor mirror at the Musee d'Orsay! Cheers, Sandy |

It has been pointed out to me that it is more likely to have been chassis BC066 with new owner, bearded, John Cesari, Gene Cesari's son... Did the T37 have black or silver wire wheels? If silver, it was BC066... Cheers, Sandy |

Did the T37 have black or silver wire wheels? If silver, it was BC066... Cheers, Sandy Ooh! I'm 95% sure that was it, because it did have a non-plated brass radiator shell. Funny, that was the other car I'd found that it could likely be, but was put off by the fact its owner lived in KY and it definitely did not have a KY plate. Do you happen to know where John lives? For some reason I was thinking it had a NY plate. I did a Google search and found this as a "Friends of Acadia" auction item: Friends of Acadia wrote: LOT #423 Vintage Bugatti Outing Enjoy an hour cruising in a 1927 Bugatti with collector John Cesari. Valid at a mutally convenient time in late August through early September in MDI area or during fall foliage season in Central Vermont. One hour tour can be split for two to experience this great adventure. Donor: John and Gene Cesari Estimated value: $500 MDI = Mount Desert Island, where Acadia NP is located. So I must have seen the happy winner on her ride! |

Curious though - why's it listed as being a replica? An early one based on a different Bugatti chassis, or total replica altogether? PS: Sandy, I'm jealous of your trip. ![]() |
