Perhaps define the question better, to prevent confusion.

The car is not in running order. You want details on the car. I presume details on what is wrong / broken / missing on the car?

I guess the people at Volkswagen know that. They do have a division which takes care of their museum cars, do they?

The photograph shown here of the Koux Atlantic owned by VW shows very clearly that it is not red at all. It's aubergine (eggplant). Erik Koux has built a red one - a beautiful red, unlike the fire engine red that was on 57374 when owned by Bob Oliver.
I think 'minime' has the wrong attitude about driving 700 kms to see it. If I hadn't seem 57374 (both before and after the restoration) and 57591 (twice) I would be glad to drive 700 kms to see it rather than never see one at all. You can have no idea until you have been close to one in person what extraordinary presence it has.

Hi,

No wrong attitude over here.
I have seen the original one (hope it is) from the Mullin collection at the Retromobile as well as the replica Holzschuch car also at the Retromoblie.
So I will not travel to see another replica but I might have a look at it when I'm over there for work once again.
I prefer to see an original Galibier rather than a replica Atlantic.

Greetings:

Minime

About 4 weeks ago on my way back from the North cap I went to the Volkswagen Museum to have a look at the red - aubergine - eggplant Atlantic . I would not drive 700 km for a Atlantic replica , but 8500km for the North Cap is OK . And a surprise in the museum , the Atlantic had no engine . No engine for over 3 years ! Are this guys not able to fix a 1936 engine in 3 years ?

Probably more an issue of priority.

The engine is in one of the 3 secret places:

-another car
-a shelf
-engine heaven

I did once go to see 2 T57's where each engine was either all over the [mud] floor or in the boot.

About 3 years ago , Volkswagen brought the Atlantic to a company at the Dutch border. A one-man company with name Schneider . The company normally repairs car bodys . I believe it was his first Bugatti in his workshop .He took the engine out and dismantled it completely. Erik Koux told me , there was no need to do it , the engine is in good condition . After 1 or 2 years Volkswagen needed the Atlantic for an exhibition , but the engine was still in pieces . so they borrowed the Atlantic by Erik Koux . That is probably the reason why the Car is changing colors .

To minime, Dear Sir,
When you wrote that you would not drive 700 kms to see the Koux replica Atlantic owned by VW, you DID NOT say that you had already seen 57374 in the Mullin collection. Yes, that is the real Victor Rothschild///Dr Peter Williamson Atlantic. So I agree you might not be eager to drive 700 kms to see one of the replicas, excellent as they are. Sorry. No offence intended. If you ever have the opportunity to see 57591, try to do so.
Best wishes,
A. L-B.
