According to David Sewell, this chassis has original side rails and some original cross members. It was rebuilt by Gino Hoskins in Wales.

Ivan Quarterley asked me to post this in this thread.

You were right, I was saving up for Grand Prix Bugatti; I am rich in spirit, but money? Not so much.

Thanks for sharing.

Solex MH 35 carb.

Interesting doing these, as had to break out the calipers and do it the good old fashioned way.

I know these carbs very well and I have to suggest that the fiber washer under the floatchamber bolt is not correct. It should be a Solex engraved plate filling the recess.

A few more pictures for you.

Oil pump body colours/textures are way out, but I thought I would show you it anyway.

May I suggest the oil hole in the cam follower supplies the oil at the wrong side.

You may!

From now on, I am only going to post pictures that have been checked by Richard and Hugh - although I will own up and say that if I had checked the plan thoroughly, I would have noticed my error straight away. Slapped wrists for SB.

Plan and corrected item shown below.

Thanks.

Kind Regards

...and changed the drawing in a few moments. great stuff.

I am curious: You are probably the man that has studied, double-checked and cross-referenced the drawings the most. Did you find mistakes on the original drawings? I presume that, given the many dimensions, this might very well be true.

Re Solex engraved plate. The carb set I was working from did not have this plate.

However, I had noticed that the attached picture taken from the Solex leaflet of the time had the name plate you refer to.

Have you or anyone on the forum got one you could scan in along with a few measurements so that I can add this feature to the model? It would be a great help if someone could.

Herman

When I started the project, I thought computers would show up the plans as being riddled with errors.

Well I was totally and utterly wrong. They are superb and the amount of errors within them is minimal and mostly of a trivial nature - bar the relationship errors between the gearbox assembly, engine and hole for starting handle.

Even then to be fair, it could be down to a newer plan and not the original Bugatti ones.

Part is here also.

This kind of thing is important and why many heads brought together by for example this forum and the Trust are so beneficial.

Quite amazing about the small amount of errors. Craftmanship was very good these days.

I just made a scan of the plate but I do not know how to get it to you as I can not post pictures.

In your drawing you show a very early 20 tube sump but the crankcase is a very late one as it shows the boss for the oilreturn banjo on the front face that is only fitted to the T51.

Sorted......and now I am going to get my rear kicked by Geoffrey St John, Hugh and Richard, because they told me to suppress that feature 6 months ago and I haven't got around to doing it....I am not lazy, just have so much to do.

It is all coming together though!

Thanks for your input.

My e-mail can be found on my website if you want to send that scan - http://www.whitney-paine.com/contact.html

Thanks Bugwrench. Amended render below.

A good example of increasing the accuracy of historical information by collaboration I think.
