Does anyone know the material specification of the brake drums of the T35 to T57?

Surely the material specification for the drums is dependant on the material to be used for the shoe linings ? Or am I missing something ? The original drum material would have been suitable for the asbestos linings available at the time.As asbestos is now illegal and normally unavailable would it not be best to make the drums from metal suitable for use with modern replacement linings ?

no matter what kind of brake shoe lining you use . Mild steel is OK . Steel with chrome is not so good . Cast iron gg25 is good . I like to use ggg40 .

Can anyone explain me how Bugatti solved the problem of losing all brakes if one cable got broken? I read somewhere that on later saloons this problem was solved mechanically.

The travel of the compensator was limited. When a cable breaks, you lose some travel in the brake pedal, but the intact side (front or rear) still works.

Udo
break drum/break lining meterial/ bonding is a dark art best left to a particularly expert man in Norfolk with a can of green "stuff" and an oven.
But have fun learning by all means :D

I was asking for the original material specification . If I like to know the best material today , I have the schaeffler group in front of my nose .

My next question about the brakes...
I've read that brake cables and linkage were more problematic on the big cars like T46, T57, why or how?
And how does sprocket chains at the end of the braking cables helped to solve problems?

The brake cable makes 2 tight turns on the front axle, to bring the cable from chassis rails to brake lever on the wheel.

With cable, the cable has a tendency to jump the sprocket, thereby losing that brake. Chains are more suitable to redirect the cable, so the last end became chain.
