and the oldest production bugatti is # 365 which lies in the technic museum in Prag. I think It was only cosmetically restored and is a non runner. the former CZ still has two more pre 1914 cars, #432 and # 7oo and two engines from that periode.
another CZ car, # 484 had gone to the Schlumpf Museum in the early 6o`s. his then owner, Mr. Podubecky discovered it as a farm -cart and restored it with a cut down T3o radiator and motorcycle rims, for people in the CZ did`nt have money for a good restauration. He changed the car for a new Fiat Limousine with Schlumpf, but soon afterwards died in it in a crash......

Moral of the story: Do not mess with Bugatti restaurations. (oh boy, Johan would have loved this...)

For Udo: Check the photo database, you find some pictures there.

How many pre-Bugatti Bugattis do still exist? (the type 0 to 9)

as far as I know, there is only one early trike ( prinetti & strucci, origins not really clear) and one Hermes ( Schlumpf) in existance.
Numbers of the other pre 1914 Bugattis are:
Type 13: 16
Type 15: 5
Type 17: 3
Type 22: 1
Type 23: 1

pre 1914 engines: uncertain, but two in the CZ, one in the USA and one in France as far as I know.

Why is it that non of the Deutzes, Hermes and others survived? What were their production numbers?

Post subject:  Re: Oldest Bugatti

you must read carefully. one Hermes did survive in the Schlumpf Museum. the production of the Hermes cars was around 30, 15 found a customer, production of the Deutz cars: around 37.( see steinhauser)

" Never swap a Bugatti for a Fiat "

So the Hermes in the Schlumpf museum is the oldest one . Is it a Bugatti ?
365 in Prag , what year is the car ? And is it a Type 19 ?

Post subject:  Re: Oldest Bugatti

Info from Graham Little ,
the oldest surviving Bugatti is the type 10 "Petit Pur Sang" which was built around 1908-9 in Cologne but never given a chassis number whereas the oldest "original" Bugatti is a type 15 with chassis number 365.

now it is getting more difficult . What is a real Bugatti ? Are the cars made in Cologne real Bugattis ? Are the Mathis cars Bugattis ?

Post subject:  Re: Oldest Bugatti

if you take the oldest production Bugatti ( built in Serie) this will be # 365 in prag
if you take the oldest vehicle, constructed by Bugatti, it will be the trike or the Hermes in the Schlumpf Museum, for there are certain "voices" that say, the trike was built up from various parts,
