Replica of Derain Type 57 SC

Image

Dear fellow Bugatti Maniacs. As you all know the magnificent bodywork as presented on 57385 on the Paris Salon of 1936 is no longer existing. In the Price book on the type 57 there is a picture of a replica inspired by this great car (Picture above). The base is a Galibier (57229) that is lowered and probably shortened.

Are there color pictures available of this replica? If I remember correctly it was presented on the Essen car show a couple of years ago as part of the Blackhawk collection.

I know the replica is red, and I believe it was in the US, I'll try to find a picture.

Indeed the car is red, and it was also part of the Blackhawk collection a few years back!
I'm not sure if they still have the car.
If I remember it correctly, this replica was wrongly built on a normal type 57 chassis, and not on the right type 57S chassis!
The chassis #57229 was originally a Ventoux according to my archieves!?!?

Best

Brumm also made a model of this car. However, not so nice as the Vroom. (but cheaper...)

The Brumm model was absolutely wrong, especially the rear part was too short. The Vroom is much better in this aspect, though I see a difference in height in the headlights! Was the original changed during it's life, or is Vroom just wrong??

Still looking for the "original" red replica.

Dear All,

The copy of this body was made by Bats in Brussels at the request of de Dobbeleer. It has the engine and gearbox of 57229, but the chassis of 57555.

(There is an extensive description of the building of this car in archives of de Dobbeleer, and the car will feature in Volume II of the Bugatti register Belgium/ the Netherlands, which will have aonther 250 extra Bugattis on top of the 285 Bugattis in Volume I. It will be available with matching numbers at a reduced price for owners of Volume I)
