Gentlemen,
I think Conway in one of his books payed attention to the switch from square to rounded dots. I can't remember which book though. And to read them all again just to find this item??? I don't have enough time right now.

Question: Does anybody know the reason for changing the logo. The old logo has squares, the newer one has dots. Also, when did this change occur? was that 1924? |

Herman when did they ever use squares? I thought the white oval with red dots along the edge dated back to the Deutz designs. After he set up on his own, Bugatti simply replaced the Deutz name. So you see Stuart, they never needed to use the square paint, which explains why it's still in a vault in Piech-the-Impaler's moated castle. It's Friday, and pay-day!!!! Johan |

It is in the 1st third of Grand Prix Bugatti. Possibly as a caption to a picture. I am on holiday, so don't have the book to hand. From memory, 1926? Mentioned whatever date it was to Richard Day and to quote he said "it is not quite as simply as that". Don't know the story behind that remark. Regards SB |

As a sign of my abject surrender, I shall spend the rest of this Saturday night with Stuart's Grand Prix Bugatti. When I find the relevant bits, I'll do another post. I am wrong! Came to me as a flash of inspiration! The book is Bugatti by Ronald Barker and is a caption to a picture! The forward was by Hugh Conway. It is not GP Bugatti! I can put away the exclamation mark now!!!!! SB |

Got my in-laws to scan book for you guys:  - Page 82
Still no answer to why and a definitive date. As usual with manufacturing, the answer could be as simple as a load of badges hanging around and mingled with new versions, until the old versions are used up. |
