Very courageous! They look good.. did they cast "right first time"? Do you have tooling / casting method data or just patterns for the parts? Did shrinkage work out OK? Did the foundry make its life easier by pouring them very hot? Fingers crossed for no surprises during machining!

The original patterns are in perfect condition given that we are now in the 61st year since they were made. All the castings came out right first time.We have aluminium and also magnesium blocks.Bugatti made both types. All checks made so far indicate that the parts will machine to drawing. The heads will be along soon within a couple of weeks. I have made a small change to the valve gear. This required 7 small new coreboxes. I am going to use conventional valve springs and buckets, rather than hairpin springs.

Why did they opt for hairpin springs in the first place?

High revs. All accounts talk of very high revolutions for the T251 engine. I have heard from Pierre Macoin that the engine would reach 10.000 RPM.The 4th engine was to have roller bearings
for the crankshaft.

OK, makes sense. Less moving mass.

Do you plan to rev it to 10.000?

LOL NO ! This is probably the most expensive Bugatti engine ever made for a racing car. It would be nice to keep it running for a few years at least. I have however taken my 4 cylinder T252 engine to 9000 RPM and broken it twice due to old age fatigue of the hairpin valvesprings.
