According to Graham Little's data-base : LGC 429 The UK registration issued to a type 44 special on 30th March, 1950. It had been “rebuilt” in 1950 by Londoner Cecil Mitchell with a cut-down type 44 chassis, a blue type 37 body and an engine with the number 441072. In the mid-fifties the car, which was for sale, was listed in the ownership of D. Stephen in London,. W.10. MITCHELL, Cecil A.A.D. An oil industry technical executive and long term owner of the ex-Bachelier type 43 (43179 with UK reg. no.AGP 8.) which he owned from 1958 until 2002. He purchased the car from R.D.Farley after it had passed through the hands of numerous owners leaving it in a very run down condition. His extensive rebuild was only completed after around forty years ownership. He also owned, for a while, a type 44 special (441072). He has recently been carrying out a lot of work on improving Zenith carburettors running on petrol and methanol and Charles Dean has sucessfully used one of his highly modified carburettors on his type 51. Mitchell has lived for many years in Maida Vale in West London. |
