Regarding picture recently posted which was definitely taken at Lewes in 1939.

The registration number links the car to the chassis number 37175 and here are my notes on that car :

38175

A 1929 type 38 fitted with a Compton four-seater touring body and issued with the UK reg. no. MS 7594. The car passed through the hands of A. Laing around 1939, A.C. “Twink” Wincop and M.E. Guadin. It was listed, painted green, in 1954 in the ownership of J. Howell of High-Wood, Worplesdon Hill, Woking and was next owned by W.G. Griffiths and V. Ponting. In 1962 it was acquired by Geoffrey St. John who removed the engine for spares for his type 35B and then sold the rest of the chassis which was then said to have been broken up. Note : the car’s registration "number" has re-appeared on a type 44 Grand Sport with chassis plate BC 019. The car appeared on the 1990 International Bugatti Rally held in Wales carrying no. 20. Its owner was listed as Allan McNab from Hitchin, Hertfordshire, UK.

Dear GCL:
BC019, while technically now a T44, is built upon the chassis frame of 38175 and contains quite a few of the original pieces of 38175, including its gearbox and other bits. The late Henry Posner did his best to reconsitute this car and wrote a wonderful account of his efforts in Bugantics, Vol. 41, No. 2 in 1978. The title was something along the lines of "The One that Nearly Got Away"...
