Chassis number sequence. Why start at 360?

Bugatti started with chassis number 360 or so (under correction, but I am close).

What happened to the other some 360 chassis numbers before that? Are these the type 0 to type 9 models?

The first recorded number is 361 with a delivery date in September 1910, however, some of the later numbers are earlier cars. I don't have my notes to hand but from memory 364 is a Hermes badged car.

a lot of car-mabufactorers did nt strat with nr. 1, cause it my look better to start with a higher number and the customer does nt think he is the first one.

OK, makes sense. I just hoped there was a more sensible reason however.
