In some of the coverage in regard to the Arlette Schlumpf "Malmerspach Collection" of cars, there is an interesting tidbit that might have gone unnoticed. It is a "spare" T41 Royale frame. Anyone make conjecture as to what it is? General assumption is the Esders roadster is built upon a recreation frame. Is this a 2nd frame a recreation also made at the same time as possibly the Esders? Or could it have been a "spare" original T41 frame from the factory acquired with all the spares that the Schlump's acquired over the years? I wish someone had some closeup pictures of the frame to see! Someone who is writing a book / articles in regard to the collection itself posts here -- care to enlighten us perhaps? |

Indeed something that is at least strange. If there was a T41 chassis available, why creating a new chassis for the car? Also, wasn;t there another museum that has a spare chassis hanging on the wall? Any photos of that as well? |

At the moment I don't feel free to give an answer. Perhaps in a few month. The frame is indeed in the Malmerspach Collection and we ha photos. Please be patient. |

This frame was built in the 70's by Alsthom in Belfort in France. It's effectively the second of three chassis (the first was used by Fritz Schlumpf to recreate a replica of the Jean Bugatti roadster for Armand Esders). This copy (like the one used for the roadster replica) is not exactly the same as the original (the central section is different, there's no tubes in fact but metallic cross-pieces). You can see the difference on the two pictures that I put in Photos/Bugatti Cars/Bugatti Type 41/Various... The other frames of the Malmerspach collection are Type 57 frames (above on the picture). |

Thanks for identifying and clarifying what they are and were for. |
