It will monitor this closely, we will see what happens but it seems to me that it was not impossible to see a Bentley with the Bugatti Veyron engine, even Thomas Bscher originally envisioned a moment, if I remember well.

Just for information :

A Bugatti Sedan prototype can only be made in the Bentley factory....

Automotive News even hints that a more affordable (though that term is relative) Bugatti could be in the works :

VW Developing Four New Platforms on The Way to Ten Million Sales

the company is slated to introduce four entirely new platforms that will be made available to all Volkswagen-family brands.

• A mid-engine platform that will be used to sports cars, such as the Audi R8 and Lamborghini Gallardo. Automotive News even hints that a more affordable (though that term is relative) Bugatti could be in the works.
VW expects that transitioning to modular platforms can shave a year off the time required to introduce a new model, save up to 40 percent on the cost of development, as structural elements like crumple zones, engine mounting hard points and pedal positions will be constant from one car to another.

Bugatti Veyron Targa ?

A topspeed of 400 km/h. The Bugatti Veyron can reach this excessive speed. A while ago we informed you about the production of the Veyron Spider. Now our source has given us some more info about the topless Bugatti.

We are 100% sure that there will be a Spider/Targa. Bugatti has ordered 400 engines and it would be a waste of money to keep them in stock covered with dust. So this is a way to make some extra money instead of flushing it down the drain.
More than 400 km/h with a convertible... who would ever thought that! According to our source that is not going to happen. The topspeed of this tarmac-eating monster will be limited at just 340 km/h. Not enough?.. Well when you've reached this speed you will definately have to visit a barber... There is only one minor problem. You can't take the Targa-panel with you when you want to drive open.

The first open version of the Veyron has left the factory for testing. If you want to test this car, you have to own a normal Veyron. So it is quite expensive to drive this car.

Next year the Veyron Spider/Targa will be on the public roads. If you want to have one, you are just too late. All the open Veyrons are sold already.

Very interesting. One thing I do not have to worry about is the need for a barber. Hahaha.

According to some sources Bugatti is testing a convertible with a glass roof.

The Bugatti Veyron is a phenomenal car but its greatness doesn’t solely lie in the fact that it can reach speeds of up to 250mph. The Veyron is truly great because of the ease at which it can reach such insane speeds and the fact that virtually anyone with a driver’s license could do it and then drive home in peak hour traffic without any major hassles.

Bugatti’s engineers have managed to make a car powered by a quad-turbo, W16 engine, and capable of accelerating to 60mpg in just 2.5 seconds as easy to drive as a humble VW Golf. Speaking with UAE’s Business24-7, Bugatti official Julius Kruta told reporters that the Veyron is only the beginning. In fact, Kruta confirmed that Bugatti will eventually build a second hyper-model. “Even though it is not economically viable for us, we will do it again. We have bigger plans for the future and the next one from our stables will be even more expensive than the Veyron,” Kruta revealed.

Late last year reports emerged claiming Bugatti might add a second model to its lineup but until now there was no official mention of such a car. Some have suggested that Bugatti’s next car will be a high-end saloon while others claim it will be a new ultra-performance supercar.

Building cars like the Veyron and its eventual successor is not about making money, Kruta explains. “The idea was to make a showcase car to tell the world what the Volkswagen group is capable of doing if the sky is the limit,” he said. “It is a statement car and we are not even meeting the cost of production.”

Info Worldcarfans.com :

Just over a month ago we reported that Bugatti was developing a faster and more powerful model codenamed “Project Lydia”, and in the past month various artist renderings were going around the net subsequently. Contradictory to those rumours Motor Trend reported yesterday that this pricey project has been called off by Bugatti's parent company VW. Apparently the execs there assert that this uber-Veyron track car is uncalled-for; and their focus now has shifted to a four-door coupe instead.

This car will come with the same Veyron’s 8-liter engine, except that it will be front-mounted. In terms of performance, it won’t be a match for the super-fast Veyron, but the Molsheim-based automaker has plans to make it the most powerful four-door coupe on the market, challenging other contenders such as the speculated Porsche Panamera Turbo, Mercedes CLS AMG series and Audi RS7.

This piece of news is not something entirely new to us. Sometime in August 2007, speculations of Bugatti planning for a sedan came to light, but it went nowhere. This time around it sounds more promising, so let’s just hope it will make it for real.

some references from previos news :

There are fews solutions to my mind as it can not be a model in concurrence with any other of Porsche and VW brands (Lambo, Bentley).

What would a 2+2 Bugatti model look like nowadays? The manufacturer itself may not ever tell us that, but Reuben Zammit, a Maltese designer, has tried to do so with the Project Streamliner. “The Streamliner is a design exercise done to show our view of how a Bugatti 2+2 GT could look like. While trying to keep the car as original as possible, we wanted to incorporate touches that makes it immediately recognizable as a Bugatti”, said Zammit to World Car Fans.

Clearly inspired on one of the most incredible cars ever created, the Bugatti Veyron, the Project Streamliner was designed towards other goals. “Instead of just trying to find ways to make it look good, we also made the design sketches in a way that the car would have a bigger interior space than it's rivals and also a bigger boot”, Zammit told World Car Fans. In other words, it would be more comfortable than the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti, and more luggage could be carried inside its boot.

At Zammit’s website, you can also see more about the Streamliner. “This is a top end front engine rear wheel drive car designed for those who want to travel fast in style and comfort”, informs Zammit. According to CarScoop, this GT would use the W12 twin turbo engine already in use in other VW group brands. It is a pity this car will probably never each production lines, but Bugatti could think of something similar in order not to be a one car brand. Even if it is the most fantastic ever built.

Usually when automakers look to increase production they do it by thousands of units. Well exclusive and prestigious automakers like Bugatti work differently. Volkswagen owned Bugatti is looking to boost production of the Veyron super car by 5 units this year. An executive at Volkswagen Group said that Bugatti is looking to increase production from 85 this year to 90 units.

In order to increase production Bugatti could shorten the summer break at its Molsheim plant in France. Vacation will be reduced to one week from three weeks the executive said.

Bugatti currently has 220 orders for the Veyron and has only delivered 135 units so far. The company has not released any details on what it plans after it completes its 300-unit run of the Veyron.
