Look at it, admire it, but know you are wrong if you assume there’s a 16-cylinder 1000hp quad-turbo under the bodywork.

This isn’t a Bugatti Veyron, if you’re wondering. It’s a Mercury Cougar wearing what looks like the Veyron’s clothes. Mercury is an extinct brand that used to sell rebadged and reengineered sedans and SUVs from Ford’s portfolio.


The Cougatti is a visual success, but under the hood lies a V6 engine teamed to an automatic transmission. It can generate 168bhp and it can hardly touch 150mph, forget 254mph.

The American behind this Bugatti Veyron replica put it up for sale on an auction site setting the starting bid at $89k. An original Veyron will set you back by $700k.

The Cougatti cannot manage 1000bhp and a 0-60 time of less than 3 seconds but can’t you think of anything else to buy for $89k that can win you second glances?
