Post subject:  Inspiration needed for new Bugatti.

I'm working on an impression for a new small Bugatti and a fourdoor sportsedan for leading Dutch carmagazine Autovisie.
I could do my own versions of what I expect they'll do to the car, based on the current styling started by Giugiaro and VW, but it would also be nice to use all your opinions.

What would you all like to see in a new Bugatti?

Thinking of a new mid-engined sportscar, size Ferrari F430 / Spyker C8 Spyder / Lamborgini Gallardo...
What classic elements would you like to see?

Thinking of a new front-engined fourdoor saloon, size Maserati Quattroporte / Porsche Panamera / Aston Martin Rapide...
What would the real Bugattist Pur Sang make of this?

Please let me know what to do with the design to make it a true Bugatti!

Hello Michiel!

You saw the recent sketches for the small Bugatti, presented on my site? There is a lot of Veyron-like ideas in it. Which seems logical, to make a smaller Bugatti sportscar, looking much like the expensive one (though with sufficient differences).

For the 4-door; do not go back to the EB112 / EB218 style, better an entirely new one. Maybe with a fastback / Veyron - like rear?

Might be interesting to discuss these matters in person.

Yes, I've seen the Huckfeldt-images, but I really can't believe Bugatti is going for a 4-cilinder Turbo to attack the TT, Z4 and Boxster.
Better said; I don't WANT to believe this.
It would be logical to make it look a little bit like the Veyron, but I'd rather try something a little more different using the input from many Bugattists Pur Sang.

I have to produce this illustration in less than a week....

I agree.
What classic Bugatti's do you think I should use for inspiration?
What types are the most famous fourseater-sportsaloons from the past?

The best classic 4 door is the last series T57 Galibier.

Maybe you can do something with that?

Especially the treatment of the rear could be an inspiration!

Hmmm.....

2 doors:

Suicide doors (hinge on the wrong end)
aluminium dash
try and design some nice wheels, inspired on the T35 or even the T59.
Coach design after some famous design: T35, T59, T57 Atalante or Atlantic. Recognisable, but not overdone (like the Chrysler at the time)
Possibly this could also be done by altering the (2-tone) color scheme. (same applies for the 4-door)

4 doors:

Pillarless?
Large radiator, large headlights
Wooden dash
Solid front axle?
3 speed gearbox (in the rear)??
quarter elliptic springs???

Sorry, ate too many purple crayons...

I did a new Royale some time ago:

I'll take notice of the comments given in that topic.

What do you think of bringing back some art deco and art nouveau stylingdetails?
To my opinion the new Bugatti's should be more sleak and less fat than the Veyron.

That's definately true.

I was thinking: Wouldn't it be nice to extrapolate the line of Bugatti cars from 1945 up till now. That way you generate a complete range of designs, showing what COULD be possible, if Jean did not get killed, and Bugatti SA did not get in serious problems. Then you would end up with the car you are brainstorming about now...

Lots of work, though...

That would be very nice.
I allready do that in my mind, but not on paper, because the picture has to be finished next week.
After thinking of the design, I'll give myself two days to make the illustration.

Maybe later I'll draw a complete range with one car per decade.

The drawing is finished.
It will be published in Autovisie next thursday.
In about one week I will post the result here.

I only did a front-side view, but maybe I'll make a design for the rear as well.

I like it. Especcially the "Atalante Swirl".

I'll have one...
