I have just received an e-mail from The Bugatti Trust, they have added a photo album on the T44 (Album 13) and one on the T49 is to be added shortly.

What a shame the pictures presented cannot be studied properly on-line.

You may be right. Then again, access is free, and if you squint a little those photo's look all right.

I still say there is money to be had from people like me with these albums. I would pay for a picture book depicting Bugattis at those wonderful 1920's and 30's Concours d'Elegance, as for those coachbuilder photos taken upon completion, again, I would very much like to add that to my collection.

It does not matter if the captions are not complete either, there is much delight to be had from a caption that reads : Location - unknown. Date -unknown. Event - unknown. Car - probably a Bugatti.

I am also fairly sure many historians would be equally interested in albums containing mystery racing cars, hill climbs and other lesser known racing events.

Rather disapppointing that after 21 years they are "publishing" something so inaccurate.

Example : picture 261 - Lucille Phillips listed as owner BUT she died (from memory) in 1978 ; around nine years before the Trust was established.

They could have looked up Wiki which lists the various owners of the car since Lucille's death.

They did however publish this album quickly...

The nice thing about this site is that it is relatively easy to make corrections, so the database is always in a more or less up to date state:

In the forum you can post your text easily
On the photo server you can make comments to the photos, which will be included in the captions below the photos.
On the WIKI one can easily add and correct info

Still, I sometimes get the comment that there are errors on the site. When I reply that one is invited to correct these, nothing happens... Strange world...

Herman I am sure that those who spot a genuine error simply corrects it. I only know Bugatti69 by name, but I am sure there are many others who also do yeoman work in keeping Wiki up to date. I suspect that those who write to you merely disagree with what is in Wiki, you know the kind of thing I mean :

"How dare you call my T51 a replica? Ray Jones told me the engine was made by a guy who knew someone who was related to a mechanic who worked in a factory near Molsheim and the chassis belonged to a T37 that burned out, so the metal may be all new but the provenance is intact. Now immediately stop calling my Bugatti a replica or I shall unleash a veritable militia of lawyers on you and your silly little website. I am a member of the B.O.C. you know"

As to how you should reply, I will have to send you the suggestions by e-mail. It might upset people if I post them here.

Regards
Johan

Just to link in with the above, browsing the internet I saw a T35/51A , 4847 , to be auctioned by RM Auctions at Amelia Island next year. Not only does Wiki have this car's complete history listed under both T35 and T51 chassis lists, but the date for the upcoming auction is 14 March 2009. Now that's damn impressive.
