Whitney Paine's disparaging comments about Wales have caused much upset within the Bugatti Owners Club.

Patron Lord Fitzroy Raglan, Council Chairman Sir John Venables-Llewelyn and Vice President Ian Preston are all pillars of Welsh society and of course, chassis for replica "Bugattis" are made in mid-Wales.

Can someone update me on this? Whether private or public.

Till so far I do not feel this comment adds to the Bugattibuilder.com community. I might change opinion on this, but clearly I need more info then...

Welsh people have a chip on their shoulder - discuss.

Ladies, I was joking and I hope LE is in making the comment.

Wales has a number of lovely attributes. Tom Jones, The Valleys, The Hillys and my favourite place Hay-on-Wye.

It has some bad things also, but it is not the fault of the Welsh that my ex-wife lives there.

Chill

The Bugatti Trust AGM is on the 18th Jan and Lord Raglan is giving the talk.

I will be there. Will you LE? If so, will I have to seek out a Welsh accent or someone in national dress, or may I be introduced in a more conventional manner? In all seriousness, I would like to meet you if you are going.

For the uninitiated the Welsh take their national dress very seriously. An example is below. What do you think Johan?

Just wait till Mel Gibson sees this. Did you know that complimenting the wearer of a kilt on his nice frock makes them go puce with rage?

Funny people the Celts.

I'm afraid I am a not a member of the Bugatti Trust and will not be attending their AGM.

If Fitzroy takes questions after his talk, could you ask him this :

The respected English magazine Motor Sport has reported that he worked as an aerodynamacist on a Cairo-based project to build a car called the Pheonix 150 to take on Mercedes and Jaguar at Le Mans.

The instigator of the project was reportedly called Raymond Flower.

Are the above true ?

A friend and near-neighbour who used to own a 35B and has Fitzroy visit him from time to time told me he thought this was a cock-and-bull story.

Could we hear it straight from the horse's mouth ?

I will do that for you, but privately after the talk.

Please confirm it is not a wind up though! Not that I get taken in easily, but up until recently I believed that gullible had been removed from the dictionary.

I too have seen the original Motor Sport report (in 1955) referring to the Phoenix sports-racing car and Raglan's design work on its bodywork.

I believe he was called Fitzroy Somerset at the time.

If you look him up in "Who's Who", he has an amazingly wide range of interests but there is no mention of his talents as a racing-car designer.

If you want to look up the reference you can now do so easily on the MS digital archive published on CD.
