The life of a mechanic! Probably the only one to recognize him in this picture is his wife or girlfriend!

there are lots of these kinds of pictures of myself out there from over the years. Nothing worse than working on a car in a compromising position (and getting it ready to race asap) and some photographer snapping away. Worse still is when they walk up to you and say you "ruined their picture" ala this one. Sometimes I wish they could wait until I was done / could get out of the way / or take pictures in the other umpteen hours of the day when nobody is around the car. Such is life...

Or both !!!

Anyhow, the people that say their picture is ruined, are no photographers... This picture tells a story. What is wrong with the car? What is he fixing? Does he use tools? Is his back hurting? etc.

It is not his back that will be hurting. The thin bodywork beside the seats will be giving him agony on the upper legs, and the handbrake cross shaft and gearchange turret will be hurting his chest. As to the nature of the problem? usually clutch associated in this area. The more amusing way of working is when you are up the other way with your feet on the tail and looking up behind the dashboard !that can hurt the back somewhat.Oh yes been there done that. :P :P :P

It is obvious I'm no Bugatti owner, I find this photo utterly romantic. I gather the reality of fettling a Bugatti is somewhat less so. What I wouldn't give to discover for myself - Get thee behind me Envy!(With apologies to Martin Buckley)

Johan,

Did you ever own a classic car? Ownership is not so romantic at all!

Usually there are the smallest defects that need to be fixed, annoying but without it one can't drive!

However, once one has managed to fix it, the reward is great.... Well, at least until the next....

Lazarus, you are evil. A most admirable character trait.

I'm not worthy.

A complete different approach to "getting sideways".

Both crew and car are (relatively) unharmed?
