According to Doug Nye, Tom Wheatcroft's "greatest disappointment was losing the Schlumpf Collection to the French Government after agreeing in principle with the Schlumpf brothers"

That is truly interesting. Imagine what this guy must have paid it it was to happen.

Also, it shows the Schlumpf Brothers were in serious trouble, and they were presumably willing to make a huge offer to save their factory. The human side of the Schlumpfs...

This is sensational. Arnoud and me are writing a book about the Schlumpf collection and the Schlumpf affair. This would settle once and for aqll all the political left gossip, that has been written untill now. Were could we find the proves of this.

Another interesting snippet is how Wheatcroft used a Sherman tank to rob a bank in Lubeck and used the proceeds to set himself up in business.
