"Are you planning on leaving that there?" It's a familiar refrain. You bring a carefully dismantled piece of car/motorbike/outboard motor into the warm and dry for further examination and it upsets the domestic arrangements.

Maybe that's why Bonhams' remarkably unadulterated Bugatti Type 57S Atalante stayed in its owner's garage for 50 years. The alternative would have been a house full of cardboard boxes, with vital nuts, bolts and washers in jam–jars, and a rusting metal skeleton, stripped of all working parts.

Not that I'm suggesting the 72–year–old car would have been on bricks, under a roped–down tarpaulin next to the rabbit hutch in the front garden — but you get the picture. Do I regret stripping a running DB4 rescued from a scrapyard in the '90s to its component parts... and then selling it as a restoration project, for not a lot more, a few years later?

Oh yes.

Easy come, easy go, I say. We have all the news on the Bugatti, results from the Arizona sales and more in this week's ClassicInside.

Does anyone know who bought 57502 and who bought the Type 18? The latter is supposedly sold to the Netherlands.

Regards, Jeroen
