Christies also held an auction on the second day which fetched a remarkable $852 500 USD for an unrestored 'barn find' 1938 Bugatti Type 57 Atalante #57766. It will no doubt be better than new the next time we run into it.

Christie's wrapped up its June 3 sale in Greenwich, Connecticut, to the tune of $2,398,825 from 29 lots.

Lot 39, a 1938 Bugatti Type 57C Atalante Coupe, was both the final car to cross the block and the star of the show. Said Christopher Sanger, Head of Car Sales for Christie's Americas, "This was a very satisfying return to Greenwich for Christie's International Motor Cars. After a weekend of clear sunshine and a busy viewing, we were delighted to provide some great auction theater on the last lot of the sale, the barn find Bugatti 57C. A determined saleroom bidder battled it out with a bidder on the phone in front of an excited sale crowd, which broke out into applause after the room bidder finally gave way and the hammer was brought down for an excellent $852,500, more than double our highest pre-sale expectations."

Other strong sellers included a 1931 Bugatti Type 49 2-door sports coupe--the ex-Berlin Motor Show car--which made $396,000. A 1937 Ford Model 78 Deluxe station wagon sold for $159,500, a reproduction 1914 Stutz Model 4E Bearcat and a fuel-injected 1957 Chevrolet Corvette convertible each sold for $99,000, and a 1965 Porsche 911 more than doubled its $70k high estimate when it hammered sold for $71,500.

Christie's next sale will be August 16 in Monterey, California, where one of the featured lots is the ex-Steve McQueen 1963 Ferrari 250 GTL Lusso.
