Nobody is able really to prove it. That's the problem.

I am also beginning to think that car is a replica. If I were the owner, I would have shown the chassis to prove that it is the original one, with the front damage. Has someone seen any pictures of that chassis?

The original chassis plus an autorail engine, both made in Molsheim, would make a more or less genuine Bugatti. But it is very dubious that the chassis is original.

I think this car can only raise the same status as the Schlumpf Esders, at best.

Definately worth the effort, but not the story.

It seems that the Schlumpf Esders chassis was built by Alsthom, the builders of the original Royale chassis, and the car was made using an autorail engine, the four speed T61 gearbox and authentic Royale spare parts; therefore it is more genuine that the "Packard" torpedo bodied replica.

The Royale to be built by Peter Mullin will have an original Bugatti chassis, the T61 intended as a "troop carrier" (although it has different crossmembers and it is longer than the T41...); if that chassis is fitted with an autorail engine, it will also be more genuine than the "Packard" bodied replica...

In spite of all, I think it is good that replica of the prototype has been built and it looks really impressive.

The problem here is that the owner of the "Prototype" bought the chassis from america WHERE IT HAD BEEN ALREADY STRAIGHTENED.As far as I know [and I have asked] he has no photos of the chassis before it was straightened in america.Maybe no photos exist. The chassis had to be straightened again in holland before it could be used. The owner is a perfectionist and the previous work was apparently unacceptable to him.

Some nicks and dings are visible on above photos. Which would help the myth.

In any case, it is very interesting to see the prototype car. I hope the other "missing" body styles are also ressurected. That would make a really nice new "summit meeting".
