Bugatti and the Rubell Family Collection start “Artist in Residence” project

Molsheim/Miami, 4 December 2013.

Bugatti is starting a new “Artist in Residence” project at Art Basel Miami Beach (5-8 December 2013) in collaboration with the Rubell Family Collection. Visitors to the “28 Chinese” exhibition are invited to select one of the exhibiting artists to receive fellowship for a stay at Bugatti’s headquarters in France. The exhibition will be presented by the Rubell Family Collection.
The project has been developed to allow the selected artist a multi-week residence at Bugatti’s headquarters in Molsheim, Alsace. This exceptional location – a combination of historic and modern architecture embedded in a beautiful landscape in an area known for its delicious food and wine and not to forget: the 1200 hp Bugatti Veyron - will serve as source of inspiration for the artist’s works.
The project is an expression of Bugatti’s on-going commitment to the Arts. Bugatti is rooted in art more than any other automotive brand. Carlo, the father of Bugatti-founder Ettore Bugatti, was a sculptor and furniture designer. Ettore’s brother Rembrandt was a sculptor of note, whose works will be presented next year in a large exhibition in the Old National Gallery in Berlin. Ettore Bugatti was able to successfully combine his family’s artistic spirit with his technological ideas and thereby form the foundation of a timeless design language. The Bugatti standard is captured in the brand values: “Art, Forme, Technique”. The creative work of all three family members will be showcased in a comprehensive exhibition at the Mullin Automotive Museum in Oxnard, California from March 2014 onwards.
The collaboration between Bugatti and the Rubell Family Collection began last year with the presentation of an artistic interpretation of a Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport by French artist Bernar Venet. Donald and Mera Rubell founded the Rubell Family Collection in New York City in 1964. Since then, it has become one of the largest private collections of contemporary art world-wide. The Foundation is currently presenting a themed exhibition titled “28 Chinese”, which includes a selection of artwork from 28 Chinese artists such as paintings, photographs, sculptures and video installations. The exhibition can be visited at the Rubell Family Collection (95 NW 29th Street, Miami, FL, 33127, USA) from 4 December 2013 until 1 August 2014.
