JENNKY,

Janine (Venables) Jannie or Jannies (VSCC 201/35) Jannine (Conway & Raffaëlli). One of several pre-war lady drivers who raced in Bugattis. She was the mistress of Albert Divo for many years. She competed in the Coupe de Bourgogne at Dijon in 1928 driving a type 35C bearing the race no.74 and scored an emphatic win when Chiron dropped out. Her average speed for the four hour race was 76.09mph and she covered 304.38 miles. Her fastest lap was 85.25mph with a lap time of 7’ 41” She entered the 1928 San Sebastian Grand Prix but did not take the start. On the 28th October 1928 she competed in a hill-climb at Gometz-le-Chatel finishing in 9th place.Her car was the 35C no. 4871. She is photographed on page 97 of David Venable’s “Bugatti Racing History” and on pages 117 and 230 of Conway’s “Grand Prix Bugatti” where she is shown with Philippe de Rothschild. (Price’s “Bugatti Type 40” p. 43 refers to “Jennecky” – she is pictured in the Bois de Boulogne in June, 1928 at the wheel of a Figoni-bodied type 40).
