Just received my favorite car magazine Octane and read nice article about an Pre WW1 Bugatti type 18, a 5 ltr chain drive, called Black Bess. The car was raced in the early twenties by a lady Ivy Cummings. Is there more info on her?

CUMMINGS, Ivy.

A female competitor in UK sprints and hillclimbs during the twenties. She originally owned a “Brescia” but, in 1923, she managed to persuade her father Sydney to purchase the chain-drive type 18 (474) which had been acquired by Sunbeam engineer Louis Coatalen after the death of the fighter pilot Roland Garros. She named it “Black Bess” after highway robber Dick Turpin’s horse, and used it for sand racing at Southport and events like Kop hill, run on public roads, until 1925. She also drove the GN “Akela” at Aston Clinton, and a Sunbeam. She sold “Black Bess” to L.H. Preston who later used it to lap Brooklands at 92.57 mph.

Surely the picture published shows her with the Brescia mentioned above and not Black Bess.

On the subject of another Bugatti lady, I notice that the official (VW) Bugatti website refers to Geneviéve Delcuze on its website. In the German translation the accent points the other, correct, (I think) way.
