Sorry to hear of the death of Tom Weatcroft last week. Owner of donnington and a great car collection. Famously had the Coupe Napoleon replica built for himself.

WHEATCROFT, Tom (UK).

An East Midlands-based enthusiast who used his huge wealth (derived from the construction industry) to resurrect the Donington Park race circuit (where he later promoted the European Grand Prix) and to assemble a stunning collection of racing cars. He commissioned the construction of a new “Royale” with the engineering carried out by John Bentley and Keith Taylor. Completion of the project took over seven years. He owned the ex-Sadlier-Jackson, Bear, Shuttleworth, Whincop, Jumbo Goddard type 51 (51140 with engine no. 4 and UK registration OMP 7) but sold it to UK BOC registrar Terry Cardy in 1996. (The latter had the car rebuilt by John Bacon replacing many non-original parts with original). Wheatcroft died in November 2009. His son Kevin has now taken over the running of the motor museum but the future of the circuit is at present extremely uncertain.
